Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is close to securing a move to a new club.
The Anfield cult hero is currently without a club after agreeing to leave his former club Al Ahli by mutual consent at the end of last season.
‘Bobby’ moved to the Saudi Pro League club in the summer of 2023, after he departed from Liverpool.
He signed a three-year contract, in a move that marked a significant shift in his career, taking him from the Premier League spotlight to a league undergoing rapid transformation.
The Brazilian’s transfer was part of a wave of high-profile moves to the Saudi Pro League, which has been aggressively investing in global football talent.
However, Firmino’s time at Al Ahli has been far from rosy.
Despite being the captain of Al Ahli and playing a key role in their intercontinental success last season, the 33-year-old was shockingly left out of the squad for domestic league matches in the second half of this season.
The decision came after Al Ahli signed Wenderson Galeno from Porto, pushing their foreign player count to 11, one over the Saudi Pro League limit.
The league only allows 10 foreign players per team, and head coach Matthias Jaissle had to make a difficult call.
Since leaving Al Ahli, Firmino has only been linked with a shock move to European giants Real Madrid.
However, the latest report indicates that Firmino is close to securing a deal that will keep him in the Middle East.
Saudi journalist @Rabanalsafena reports that the Brazilian has agreed a deal to join Qatari side Al-Sadd.
“Bobby Firmino has reached a final agreement with the Qatari club Al-Sadd, and the deal is in its final stages, paving the way for the official announcement,” the journalist posted on X.
